For a few dietary supplements, there is weak evidence of a possible benefit. For example, some studies suggest that chromium, cinnamon, or berberine might help with blood sugar control and that alpha-lipoic acid might be helpful for reducing pain associated with diabetic neuropathy (nerve problems).
