Interdisciplinarity is an analytically reflective study of the methodological, theoretical, and institutional implications of implementing interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and research. Interdisciplinary approaches in the social sciences began in the 1920s.
Interdisciplinarity involves researchers, students, and teachers in the goals of connecting and integrating several academic schools of thought, professions, or technologies—along with their specific perspectives—in the pursuit of a common task.
This article address some problems and questions relating to the interdisciplinary approach in basic (primary and secondary) education: How can interdisciplinary practices be understood and be applied in different countries and Quebec education? Why promote interdisciplinarity in basic education?
