In 1961, internationally acclaimed pianist Van Cliburn came to the National Music Camp to perform a benefit concert. Inspired by the success of Cliburn's performance, the Camp arranged for future performances by Cliburn and other high-profile artists.

1991. The National Music Camp changes its name to Interlochen Arts Camp. Guest conductors and performers for Camp include Maxim Shostakovich, Neeme Jarvi, Itzhak Perlman, Beaux Arts Trio, and Kronos Quartet. Neeme Jarvi and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra conduct their first annual residency at Interlochen.
In 1944, Maddy purchased Camps Interlochen and Penn Loch, absorbing them and the National High School Orchestra Camp into his new Interlochen Center for the Arts. [4] In 1963, WIAA, Interlochen's public radio station, signed on for the first time.
18 Απρ 2024 · The Interlochen Theme is a cherished part of Interlochen Arts Camp, heard dozens of times every summer across the campus. The Theme has been a part of camp for nearly 100 years. Its first use was in the summer of 1931, which was the fourth season of what was then called the National Music Camp.
The music camp began as the state-sponsored Camp Interlochen, for girls, in 1918; a camp for boys was established nearby in 1922. In 1928 these became the National High School Orchestra Camp and in 1931 the National Music Camp.
