When an agency is able to schedule work in advance on a regular basis, it has an obligation to document the change in work schedule from intermittent to part-time or full-time to ensure proper service credit.
Under 5 U.S.C. 6121 (5) (external link), a compressed work schedule means that an employee's basic work requirement for each pay period is scheduled (by the agency) for less than 10 workdays. See the definition and requirements for regularly scheduled work in 5 CFR 610.102 and 5 CFR 610.111 (d).
A maxiflex work schedule is a type of flexible work schedule (FWS) established under 5 U.S.C. chapter 61, subchapter II, that, when combined with other workforce flexibilities (such as telework), provides great flexibility to employees who need to address the demands of work, caregiving, and other personal responsibilities.
When an agency is able to schedule work in advance on a regular basis, it has an obligation to document the change in work schedule from intermittent to part-time or full-time to ensure proper service credit.
§ 340.403 Intermittent employment. (a) Appropriate use. An intermittent work schedule is appropriate only when the nature of the work is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance.
