A shuttle run test can be short and quick or slow and longer. They are designed to evaluate an athlete's speed and agility.
The Interval Shuttle Run Test (ISRT) is a widely used physical test for team sports players. Clubs ranging from amateur to professional levels use this test to get insights into the physical fitness of the players. But what is the logic behind this test, and what kind of information can you get out of it?
The interval shuttle run test (ISRT) was developed to assess intermittent endurance capacity in soccer players ( 23 ). In this test, the covered running distance (ISRT performance) is used as the test score ( 24 ).
The running speed is increased from 10 km·h −1 every 90 seconds until exhaustion. Within a 2-week period, 17 intermittent sport players (i.e., 10 men and 7 women) performed the ISRT twice in a sports hall under well-standardized conditions.
