The data in this study shows that intermuscular septum position varies considerably between individuals. In a patient with a shallow septum angular position, the intermuscular septum is more anterior and closer to the tibia than expected.

1 Ιαν 2013 · In the limbs the intermuscular septa are formed as expansions of the deep fascia, introducing themselves deeply through the different muscular bellies and attaching firmly to the skeleton. The osteofibrous compartments are formed in this way, filled with synergistic muscle groups.
The anterior intermuscular septum is a fascial sheet, which is an extension of the overlying crural fascia. It extends deep between the extensor digitorum longus and the fibularis longus and brevis muscles to attach to the anterior border of the fibula.
The medial femoral intermuscular septum (or medial intermuscular septum of the thigh) is a dense fold of deep fascia, which invaginates between the muscles of the thigh; separating the anterior and medial (adductor) compartments of the thigh from each other.
21 Ιουλ 2021 · Results: Analysis of septal position showed that (1) as the septum progresses distally down the leg, the relative septum position shifts anteriorly; and that (2) there was considerable variability in the intermuscular septum position between individuals even when accounting for the anterior to posterior progression of septal position.
