In class students will be guided to compare and to discuss their work with their partner and in a group to master how to graph a logarithmic function, to convert between exponential and logarithmic forms, and to evaluate logarithms. If time permits, we will learn how to use common and natural logarithms.
Introduction To Logarithms. Logarithms were originally developed to simplify complex arithmetic calculations. They were designed to transform multiplicative processes into additive ones. If at first this seems like no big deal, then try multiplying 2,234,459,912 and 3,456,234,459. Without a calculator !
This lesson plan aims to teach students about graphing logarithmic functions, evaluating logarithmic expressions, and relating logarithms to real-world situations. It includes preliminary exercises, a review of domains and ranges, a discussion of graphing logarithmic functions by finding their ranges and intercepts, and developmental activities ...
1. Understand the concept of logarithm and its mathematical definition. 2. Learn to calculate basic logarithms using fundamental properties. 3. Convert exponential expressions into logarithmic forms and vice versa. Introduction. Duration: (10 - 15 minutes)
The lesson begins with an introduction exercise on evaluating logarithmic expressions without a calculator. Students then work through examples in groups and on their own to graph logarithmic functions, convert between exponential and logarithmic forms, and evaluate logarithms.
Let them learn about three of the five properties of logarithms (product, power and quotient) in only one class! With this fun and informative lesson plan, your students will be sure to get the most out of their math lessons.
(15 min) Hand out the logarithms handout. Go through the example there. (10 min) Pass out the calculators (if they don't already have one) and go through the basic log function on it. Have them compute a few base-10 logarithms. (10 min) In-class exercise: Go throught the first page of the in-class exercise.
