Complaint: In the days following the creation of my business profile on Yelp, I received multiple phone calls regarding the platform and advertising. Key parts of one of these calls included the sales agent: - Noting a $300 offer to be applied to advertising costs.
When our system detects questionable activity on a business page, we display a Suspicious Review Activity Alert after a thorough investigation of the incident. This can include large numbers of reviews coming from a single IP address, or reviews from users who may be connected to a group that coordinates incentivised fake reviews.
Yelp’s policies strictly prohibit compensated and incentivized reviews as they can mislead consumers. To help inform people’s spending decisions, we issue Consumer Alerts that appear over a business’s reviews to warn people when we discover suspicious review activity.

Not only do compensated reviews mislead consumers and create a disadvantage for other businesses, they’re illegal and need to be mitigated across all online platforms.
