IV iron sucrose was well tolerated in healthy cats but was associated with transient increase in the systemic inflam- matory marker SAA. Efficacy evaluation of dose based on iron deficit is needed in sick cats.
8 Μαΐ 2022 · This study provided preliminary evidence that IV iron sucrose is safe in healthy cats at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg when diluted to 0.9 mg/mL and administered over 30 minutes. Future studies screening for AEs in larger groups and evaluating doses based on iron deficit in cats with iron deficiency are warranted.
Side effects of iron supplementation are generally mild, and mostly involve gastrointestinal irritation which may result in darker feces than usual. If you notice any side effects, contact your vet immediately.

The deficiencies most likely to cause anemia are iron, copper, vitamin B 12, vitamin B 6, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin E. Iron deficiency occurs in some cats, but it is more likely to occur due to blood loss than a nutritional deficiency.
