OS usually takes from 1 to 2 GB of RAM(Windows 7, 8) and games usually use around 500MB(Most games) to 1GB RAM(Stuff like GTA4 and Crysis on maximum settings) and around 500MB of video card memory at 1080p.

IDK what you are playing but for basic 2D stuff even 4GB is plenty. 8GB should be more then enough for any games made before 2017 and up to mid-range stuff today. I would say stick with 8GB unless you plan to play high-end modern games like FarCry 6 or Cyberpunk 2077.
