Hey guys, so I recently received a email that was clearly a phishing scam. It had a pdf attached which I assume had some malware on it. I wanted to run the file through a security analyzer but I accidentally opened the pdf and now I'm worried about a potential infection.
Just opening it is asking to get infected. Instead you can run PDFiD and AnalyzePDF on a linux machine to take a look at whats inside the PDF. PDFid will check a file and give you a list as output in a terminal of how many streams, endstreams, objects, and things like that that a file contains.
I accidentally opened a PDF in a dodgy email (it was autodownloaded to my phone - blame near 28 hours of no sleep). I immediately realised my error, deleted the file and email, ran malware scans (Malwarebytes) and Kapersky, as well as the Samsung device scan. The scans all came up clean.

You can easily report scams online and can file anonymously if you choose. If you suspect you gave money or sensitive information to a scammer, or do not feel safe because of a suspected scam, contact your local law enforcement agency or call 9-1-1.
