The acropolis museum is one of the best museums I have ever been to - it is 100% worth it especially after seeing the acropolis. The level of detail and the whole layout is astounding. Also very interesting how they have special spaces for artifacts that are currently in the British museum.
The National Archeology is IMO a better overall museum as it gives an overview of all Ancient Greek art from the very beginning up until Roman times, but the Acropolis museum is nice to supplement your trip to the Acropolis.
I have a big fascination for philosophy and the Ancient Greek culture. So for my trip to Athens I really wanted to learn more about it's rich history with context. I thought solo-ing the Acropolis and it's museum at my pace would do that, but it has left me feeling disappointed.
What for you is something temporary that you'll lose interest in once you leave the museum, and fun picture to show your friends, who will only care for 2 seconds...is valuable information and artifacts for historians, archaeologists, and a nation's lasting history.
