Itunes is recommended by apple to do software updates. There have been reports of an OTA update causing some issues that are fixed if you do the full update. I always do the full update from iTunes. Why install a patch to upgrade your iOS when you can install the new version from the beginning.

At any time, you can check for and install software updates. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. The screen shows the currently installed version of iOS and whether an update is available. To turn off automatic updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates.
