23 Ιαν 2023 · Therefore, leaving groups that form resonance structures upon leaving are considered to be excellent leaving groups. The following diagram shows sulfur derivatives of the type ROSO 3 - and RSO 3 - . Alkyl sulfates and sulfonates like the ones shown make excellent leaving groups.

12 Απρ 2011 · I-, Br-, Cl-, TsO-, H2O) are good leaving groups. The conjugate base of weak acids (H-, H3C (-), alkyl anions) are poor leaving groups. The conjugate acid is a better leaving group. One common example is with alcohols, which can undergo substitution and elimination reactions after the HO is protonated.
Water in the form of hydronium ion is an excellent leaving group. Here's a video on what makes a good leaving group. Ernest Z. · 3 · Nov 21 2014
23 Ιαν 2023 · A good leaving group wants to leave so it breaks the C-Leaving Group bond faster. Once the bond breaks, the carbocation is formed and the faster the carbocation is formed, the faster the nucleophile can come in and the faster the reaction will be completed.
Common anionic leaving groups are halides such as Cl −, Br − and I −, and sulfonate esters such as tosylate (TsO −), while water (H 2 O), alcohols (R−OH), and amines (R 3 N) are common neutral leaving groups.
If you first protonate the hydroxyl group, effectively turning it into water (a weak base), then it becomes a pretty good leaving group. Note that water is a pretty stable molecule- just as others said, it's all about stability.
20 Ιουλ 2022 · Iodide, which is the least basic of the four common halides (\(F\), \(Cl\), \(Br\), and \(I\)), is the best leaving group among them. Fluoride is the least effective leaving group among the halides, because fluoride anion is the most basic.
