25 Ιουν 2024 · An overview of the pathophysiology, clinical features, and management of acute ethanol intoxication in adults is presented here. The health effects of chronic alcohol use, the recognition and management of alcohol use disorder and withdrawal, and ethanol intoxication in children are discussed separately.
In this report, we describe liquid- based tests that detect methanol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, and ethanol in saliva. The tests are sensitive and they have different specificity for each of the alcohols facilitating distinction among them.
Some of the effects are very well described and explained, but there are still gaps in the explanation of empirically co-founded dysfunction in many alcohol-related conditions. This work focuses on reviewing actual knowledge about the toxic effects of ethanol and its degradation products.

17 Οκτ 2017 · To sum up, there seems to be no scientific evidence that fluid therapy should be used in all cases of acute alcohol intoxication, but it is advisable to reserve it to those patients with hydro-electrolytic alterations or only where deemed necessary.
A popular theory suggests that dehydration is the primary cause of alcohol hangover. ∗ If correct, the consumption of water could alleviate hangover symptoms. This review concludes that hangover and dehydration are two co-occurring but independent consequences of alcohol consumption.
