So after spending 70 years in a materialistic, hedonistic culture Isaiah speaks to a community torn between leaving behind all their comfort in order to rebuild Jerusalem. Some passages of
sermons do aim at this: to keep such as are drawn out of their sinful course already to the certainty of salvation, and to keep such steadfast in their faith, hope, and repentance, and that they may not fall from them.

(Isaiah 55.10–11, NIV) The promises of God are as sure and certain as the rain that falls from the sky. Just as it brings new life and growth, so will the word of God.
