The Outer Banks (frequently abbreviated OBX) are a 200 mi (320 km) string of barrier islands and spits off the coast of North Carolina and southeastern Virginia, on the east coast of the United States.
You have what we call locally the Northern Beaches – everything from Oregon Inlet north, from Nags Head to Duck. South of Oregon Inlet, you have Hatteras Island where the Outer Banks is made up of Cape Hatteras National Seashore and a collection of seven villages.
