The pancreatic endocrine islet is a mini-organ that coordinates glucose homeostasis. The pancreas, which is broadly divided into head, body, and tail regions, lies behind the stomach in back of the abdominal cavity, with the head positioned in the curve of the duodenum and the tail extending toward the spleen.
