13 Ιουλ 2020 · In June 2016, the government’s Resolution 1587 adopted a definition of ‘cannabis for medical and research purposes’, which ensures access to and supply of medical grade cannabis on the one hand and control of cannabis products which are still defined as ‘narcotic drugs’ on the other.
Background. Cannabis is not registered as a pharmaceutical (medication), and it is currently defined as a “dangerous drug” according to both the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance [New Version], 5733—1973 and the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, to which Israel is a signatory.
In addition to the Convention, local laws, an ordinance, government resolutions, and official procedures regulate Israel’s medical cannabis industry. The 1977 Penal Law sits at the heart of criminal law in Israel, and addresses the matter of drugs, including cannabis, although mainly within the context of convictions.
