ASU’s majors require a math placement assessment to determine the appropriate math course to enroll in. Students whose major does not require MAT 117, MAT 170 or higher can take MAT 142, which is not a prerequisite for any other mathematics course.
ALEKS math placement exams taken at Illinois State University are automatically uploaded from the ALEKS system into students records and are available to use for registration at 8:00 a.m. the day after the exam was completed.
ASU will use your placement assessment score and your major math requirements to identify the appropriate math course for your math skills and academic goals. If you think you have a course that you can transfer in, check https://transfer.asu.edu/credits and use the Transfer Credit Guide.
Starting January 21, all testing including ALEKS will be held in the new Albion Hall Testing Center. For first-time ALEKS test takers who are ISU students or who have applied to ISU, the ALEKS Math Placement test is offered free of charge. You can take the exam up to 5 times at no cost.
From understanding your math placement test scores to finding tutoring for your required math courses, you’ll have all the resources you need to excel in mathematics. If you can’t find what you’re seeking or you still have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our school at math@asu.edu.
Testing Services coordinates the placement assessment that will help you place in the most appropriate math class. If necessary, students should take the placement exam at least two weeks before attending Preview.
The ALEKS placement assessment is available free of charge for ISU students. Students have five free attempts at the ALEKS placement assessment within a six month time frame, starting when the first test is taken.
