Potential treatments for iron-deficiency anemia include oral or intravenous (IV) iron formulations. The IV iron formulations that are currently available in the United States include iron sucrose, low-molecular-weight iron dextran, ferrous gluconate, ferric carboxymaltose, iron isomaltoside, and ferumoxytol.
Intravenous iron is widely used for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia when oral iron is inappropriate, ineffective or poorly tolerated. Acute hypersensitivity reactions during iron infusions are very rare but can be life-threatening.
16 Αυγ 2020 · Rechallenge with an alternative intravenous iron formulation was safely performed in most patients in our cohort after Fishbane reactions and mild or moderate, single-system hypersensitivity reactions to intravenous iron.
5 Νοε 2021 · The major adverse effect associated with IV iron is infusion-related reactions (IRR), ranging from mild reactions mediated by complement activation-related pseudo-allergy to anaphylaxis. In this study, we sought to determine rates and severity of iron IRR, identify patient characteristics associated with IRR and report strategies for subsequent ...
Intravenous iron has become an essential component for the treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia. Individuals administering Intravenous iron should have knowledge in intravenous iron administration, including a pre-infusion assessment to evaluate infusion reaction risks, pre- and post-infusion
Oral versus intravenous iron therapy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and iron deficiency with and without anemia in Germany–a real-world evidence analysis
8 Φεβ 2012 · This review summarises clinical consequences of iron deficiency (ID) and anaemia in cancer patients, mechanisms how impaired iron homeostasis affects diagnosis and treatment of ID, and data from clinical trials evaluating i.v. iron with or without concomitant erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs).
