The thing is, my school system uses IXL in both Elementary and Secondary. I don't use it for classwork when we are in class, but for online virtual learning, it's been a huge help. And it's looking like we'll need to stay online for Fall.
We used Study Island for a while at my school but IXL has many more topics, better explanations, and asks better questions. As for parents, IXL gives explanations so it makes it easier for them to help their kids if you assign it at home.
In my experience as a private math tutor (and 8 years as a public school math teacher), IXL is fine for reinforcement of math topics but is not a great initial teaching tool. Maybe it has changed since I last used it, but I wouldn’t recommend it as the primary teaching method.
I teach 6th grade, and there's a big debate about IXL that has been raging since the beginning of the school year on the 5/6 team. Minnesota doesn't do common core math, so the alignment is funky for us. Some of our standards aren't covered by IXL.
I used it as a school teacher. The school had a subscription for it. It’s popular because (I think, it’s been 8 years) all the questions are aligned with learning standards so you could see the data neatly, what student scored well on and what needs practice.
Standard statistics is the easiest class ever to take in high school I maintained a 98% in that class my entire senior year. I took an online statistics course in sophomore year, and I'd say it's fairly useful in general. It was not difficult, and I enjoyed it well enough.
