The Nanchang J-12 (Chinese: 歼-12) was a lightweight supersonic fighter built by the People's Republic of China, intended for use by the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).

Like the MiG-21, the J-12 has a bulged fuselage spine, which somewhat reduces visibility at the rear of the aircraft. Power comes from a single Wopen WP-6Z turbojet providing 5,512 pounds of dry thrust and 9,000 pounds of reheated thrust.
Design of this lightweight single-seat air-superiority fighter was started in mid-1969 by a team under the leadership of Lu Xiao-Pcheng at the Nanchang Aircraft Manufacturing Company.
