12 Αυγ 2020 · Two things that you might be able to do if the scammers won’t quit calling. First, contact the jail or facility from which they are calling, give them the inmate’s name and your phone number, and ask that they investigate the possibility of a phone scam.

Over the past few months I’ve received a few calls from one of those correctional facility collect call services, i.e. an automated voice says “An inmate at [name of correctional facility] is calling for you [the inmate says their name]. To accept charges press one,” etc.

If it looks like the police are calling, look up the non-emergency phone number (hint: it’s not 9-1-1) and call to find out if the story is legit. You’ll soon learn it’s a scam. Report the imposter to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
