The Japan Rail Pass is an excellent way to travel throughout Japan and without having to worry about extra costs incurred while using the local JR lines. It's worth it if you are planning on travelling throughout Japan using public transport and staying at least a week or two.
To purchase JAPAN RAIL PASS, you are required to meet either of the following requirements. Even if you have already purchased a pass online through the online sales service or you have an Exchange Order, if you do not meet the requirements, you will not be permitted to pick up or exchange for a pass.
The Japan Rail Pass gives you access to JR train lines countrywide, with very few exceptions. With your pass, you can take unlimited rides on most shinkansen, as well as on rapid, express and local JR trains.
The JAPAN RAIL PASS (hereinafter referred to the “PASS”) is only valid for the person who meets the usage qualifications such as being a foreign national visiting Japan with the entry status of a Temporary Visitor.

The Japan Rail Pass is accessible to any traveler, with a foreign passport, traveling to Japan with a temporary visitor* visa of 90 days or less: tourist, business trip, family visit... Therefore, people who travel to Japan for more than 90 days (working holiday, military, diplomatic, cultural, research, working visa, etc.) are not eligible.
