According to the Jasper County Board of Commissioners, the decision follows recommendations from local fire chiefs. The order applies to the entire county, including the city of Rensselaer.
As of September 17th, 2024, the Jasper County Board of Commissioners are declaring a local disaster emergency due to the current drought conditions. The commissioners are following the recommendations of local area fire chiefs.

As of October 29th, 2024, the Jasper County Board of Commissioners are extending the local disaster emergency declared October 22, 2024, due to the current drought conditions. The commissioners are following the recommendations of local area fire chiefs. As a result, a no-burn order is being issued for the next (7) days until November 5th, 2024.

Local officials said Monday that the Burn Ban here in Jasper County will expire at midnight on Tuesday evening, meaning local residents will be able to burn on Wednesday. The current ban was originally approved on July 21, 2023.
