Figuring Differential Ratio. Because axle gearing is so crucial, here is the quickest way to figure your Jeep's ratio: Jack up both wheels. Mark the inside of the tire with chalk for a reference point. Mark the differential housing and the pinion's u-joint dust shield with an additional mark.

4 Αυγ 2011 · There are several ways to determine your gear ratio. Look for a tag on the differential. Pull the differential cover and look for the # of teeth stamped on the ring and pinion. Count the number of teeth on the ring and pinion. Lift the wheels off of the ground and count the drive shaft rotations.
