The 591-episode series is generally broken into five parts, based on the ownership of Lassie. The "Miller years" (Jeff's Collie) comprise the first three seasons of the series and part of the fourth, during which Lassie is owned by Jeff Miller (Tommy Rettig).
1.22 "The Cave" (02/06/55): Jeff and Lassie are trapped in a cave shown to them by a malicious classmate. 1.23 "The Injury" (02/13/55): An injured man, hurt in a car accident, is brought to the farm. He mutters something about hitting a collie with his car--and Lassie is acting strangely. Dr. Stuart: Dayton Lummis. 1.24 "The Well" (02/20/55):
Young Jeff Miller inherits a neighbor's collie and, while Lassie has trouble adapting to the Miller home, she is mistreated by the deceased's misanthropic hired man Wills who hangs on to steal the deceased's hidden cash.
The Miller family included Gramps, Ellen, and Jeff. This classic “boy and his dog” series went through many changes during its 17 year run. The one feature that remained the same was, of course, Lassie (although she was portrayed by many different collies over the years).
Lassie is an American television series that follows the adventures of a female Rough Collie dog named Lassie and her companions, both human and animal.
In the opening episode of the series, Lassie finds a new home but the collie shows a reluctance to leave her old home. A snoopy inspector from the water department insists on seeing the Miller well. Gramps, feeling a little guilty over ignoring Jeff in the past, brings home a colt for him.
