Many states offer “license reciprocity”. License reciprocity means that, if you already hold an active real estate license in one US state, you can apply for a real estate license in your new state without taking all the state-required pre-licensing real estate courses.

The application process involves submitting proof of the current and active license from another state, along with any other required documentation, to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission. Applicants must then register for and pass the state-specific portion of the exam.
Licensees who wish to engage in buying or selling real estate in North Carolina can obtain their NC license by passing the “state” section of the license examination; they do not have to repeat the general pre-licensing coursework.
