The first season of Jericho contains 22 episodes which were originally broadcast in the United States from 20 September 2006 to 9 May 2007. This season unfortunately won generally negative ratings from the general public and led to the original cancellation of the series by CBS.
Jericho Season 1 primarily focuses on the mystery surrounding the attacks, the struggle for resources, and the tensions within and outside the town. The season finale, “Why We Fight,” left viewers with a cliffhanger that set the stage for the next chapter. But the series was canceled due to lower-than-desired viewership numbers.

I can forgive the pacing in the second season because it was only renewed for 7 episodes and then canceled for a second time.
Only seven episodes were ordered for the short second season. There were two endings filmed: the one that aired had an emotional conclusion and many of the fans were satisfied with that. The alternate ending, available in full on the 2nd season DVD, was the original ending that led into season 3.
