Jhpiego began working in Namibia in 2013 with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MOHSS) with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), initially under the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP) and now under the Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP).
Jhpiego is a nonprofit organization for international health affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. [1] The group was founded in 1973 [2] and initially called the Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics, but is now referred to simply as Jhpiego (pronounced "ja-pie-go").

The first European that landed in Namibia was the Portuguese explorer Diogo Cão, who came ashore north of Swakopmund at Cape Cross in 1484. Parts of Namibia are notoriously dry and much of the country is made up of the Namib Desert and the Kalahari Desert.
