Job chapter 1: Job 1:1-5. The holiness, riches, and religious care of Job for his children. Job 1:6-12. Satan, appearing before God, by calumniation obtains leave to afflict Job. Job 1:13-22. Understanding of the loss of his children and goods, in his mourning he blesses God. Job chapter 2: Job 2:1-6.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS AND SUMMARY OF THE BOOK OF JOB. Job consists of a prose introduction and conclusion - which may have existed separately from the rest, and of a large poetic core. Satan - who seems not to be the same as the devil, merely an opponent - tells God that Job would not obey if he were afflicted. God gives permission to afflict Job greatly.

Job was a righteous, blameless man who had apparently been blessed greatly by God (1:5). The time came for the “sons of God” (cf. 1:6; 2:1; 38:7) to present themselves before God and Satan came accusing Job (1:6-12; cf. 1 Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:9-10).
