29 Ιαν 2012 · Love one another — it’s a command we’ve noted many times before. Jesus commands His followers to love one another. We hear it again today in the passage before us in John 15:12-16. And at first glance, when you hear the command you might have one of two reactions.

John 15:12 states, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” Jesus spoke these words to His disciples shortly before His crucifixion in a long discourse with different instructions. From verses 9–17, Jesus emphasizes the importance of love, both toward Himself and others.

As we come to John 15:12-17, Jesus explains the relationship they are to have with each other. What does John 15:12 mean? In prior verses, Jesus used the analogy of a vine and branches to explain how behavior signifies a relationship with Him (John 15:1–11). In that discussion, Jesus reiterated that obedience to His teachings is an expected sign of those who truly believe (John 14:15).
15 Φεβ 2015 · In John 15:9, Jesus said, “Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” Now Jesus applies abiding in His love to our relationships to one another. Abiding in His love is the key to loving our brothers and sisters in Christ.
