This study stylistically analyzes the semantic deviations in “Poem 130” by Jose Garcia Villa, a Philippine national artist for literature. Aside from the eccentric commas, his comma poem contains semantic deviations. Qualitative data were gathered to determine the functions of the semantic deviations found in the said poem.

Further indicating that the “Yncantaress” sonnet is not only inspired by the Spanish language, but also from a Hispanic literary culture, in Villa’s notebooks one finds that during a span of three years, from 1939 to 1941, Villa consistently translated modern Hispanic poetry.
