The series frames educational demonstrations of basic technological principles with a raucous, fast-paced, head-to-head contest. Racing against the clock, two teams scrap together working machines to carry out a particular mission, using whatever they can find in a 5-acre junkyard.
Junkyard Wars -- Behind the Scenes. The Junkyard Wars set is located on the outskirts of Los Angeles in an industrial area. At the front of the actual junkyard is an air-conditioned trailer where personnel can take a break, as well as a lounge area with a tarp cover.
Where this dramatic series used the junkyard setting to highlight working-class struggles, Junkyard Wars turns acts of technological salvaging and repurposing into elaborately staged competitions.
