For teen drivers, the state has a graduated driver's licenses process allowing increased driving privileges with age and experience. Teen drivers between the ages of 14 and 17 follow the graduated driver's license process.
Applicants under 17 years of age must hold their instructional permit for 1 year from the date it was issued or until their 17th birthday whichever occurs first.
A person between the ages of 14 and 17 can apply for an instruction permit (sometimes called a "learner's permit") at the Kansas Department of Revenue Division of Vehicles. If you are 14 or 15, you'll need permission from a parent or guardian to apply for the permit. (Kan. Stat. § 8-2,100 (2024).)
