Adjuvant treatment should be considered for patients who have residual keloid tissue within the body of their ears/earlobes. Magnetic disks (Fig. 13) shall be used as the primary method of adjuvant treatment for all such patients (see KRF Guideline-MD) and should be continued for 3-4 months.
Surgery followed by pressure treatment has shown a good response rate of 90–100%, after excision of earlobe keloids. However, pressure must be maintained day and night for a minimum of 6–9 months, and premature release is frequently followed by recurrence of the lesion.
PMCID: PMC4462461 PMID: 26527968. Abstract. Ear keloids are among the most challenging plastic surgery conditions and may have significant psychosocial impact for the patient. Their aesthetic considerations are serious and despite a variety of treatment options, they often proved to be recurrent.
24 Μαΐ 2024 · A total of 36 earlobe keloids in four eligible studies were treated with excision and imiquimod 5% cream, starting on the day of surgery, and applied to either open or sutured wound [50,51,52,53]. Night-time use of approximately 8 hours per day for 6 to 8 weeks was a common instruction.
We evaluate a single center’s, decade-long experience utilizing 3 approaches to keloid treatment: corticosteroid medical management (MM), surgical excision (SE), and surgical excision + radiation therapy (SE + RT).
Keloidectomy with intraoperative and postoperative intralesional steroid injections has been very effective in the treatment of ear keloids. Different treatment modalities act synergistically, but excision surgery gives good results as it aims at maintaining ear architecture.
