The middle and upper Keys, those closer to the mainland, appear to have sustained more damage than the lower Keys, although the whole island chain took a beating.
Hundreds of vessels have been reported damaged or have sunk around the Floridian coast as a result of Hurricane Irma's force. Teams consisting of federal and state response members are assessing the potential risk of pollution from these vessels.

On September 10, 2017, Hurricane Irma impacted Key West. A last minute wobble in this storm’s track to the north limited damage in Key West. The most severe damage occurred further north in the islands of the middle-Keys. Flooding in Key West was very minor in comparison.
