LEARNING OBJECTIVES. After reading this chapter, you will be able to do the following: Analyze a definition of communication, articulating the definition’s level of observation, intentionality, and normative judgment. Identify the various contexts in which communication takes place.
In this course, we will focus on three main sociological theories– conflict theory, structural functionalism, and symbolic interactionism. In order to achieve this result, it can be valuable first to understand what communication is and how it works. Communication is a relatively complex process.
