Gorgo (/ ˈ ɡ ɔːr ɡ oʊ /; Greek: Γοργώ [ɡorɡɔ͜ɔ́]; fl. 480 BC) was a Spartan woman and wife to King Leonidas I (r. 489–480 BC). She was the daughter and the only known child of Cleomenes I, Leonidas' half-brother and King of Sparta (r. 520–490 BC). [1]

24 Ιουν 2024 · Leonidas married Cleomenes’ daughter Gorgo, following the tradition of avunculate marriages like his parents before him. By the time of the ‘Battle of Sepeia’ against Argos in 494 BC, he had already been named Cleomenes’ heir as the latter didn’t have a male issue.
