Solomon’s reign was Israel’s most prosperous and most powerful period in history. Place in history: Solomon was the third king of Israel and reigned during its golden age. He built the temple originally envisioned by David and this temple was spectacular, known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
I will take you, and you shall reign over all your heart desires, and you shall be king over Israel: God ordained the division of Israel and the reign of Jeroboam. He did this as a judgment — a great judgment — upon Solomon for his embrace of idolatry.

1. (1 Kings 4:20-21) Peace and prosperity. Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and rejoicing. So Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.
At the beginning of his reign, Solomon loved the God of Israel and covenanted with God that he would walk in obedience throughout his administration as king of Israel. Solomon was promised wisdom, riches, honor, and long life if he would continue in righteousness before the Lord.
Inauguration and Reign Solomon was probably in his early twenties when he became king. Review the account of his crowning in 1 Kings 1:28–35. Reflect on David’s counsel for his son in 1 Kings 2:1–4, and ponder the wonders of Solomon’s reign in 1 Chronicles 29:23–25. Write down your observations. What impresses you about Solomon?
