Prophet Hud (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminded them it was Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) who gave them life and death, and it was Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) alone who blessed them with their skills and, hence, was the only one deserving of their undivided and sincere worship.
The Moroccan mystic Abdulaziz ad-Dabbagh gives detailed information about Hud: According to him, 53:50 alludes to the fact that Hud was sent to the second ʿAd tribe, which lived after Noah. The first 'Ad tribe had a messenger named Huwayd, whose message was to be revived by Hud, and the tribe was destroyed with stones and fire by God.

Sent by God to his brethren, Prophet Hud spread the message that God is One and to worship Him alone. It was the same message spread by all the Prophets of God.

Hūd (a) (Arabic: هود) was the prophet of the people of 'Ad and his name is mentioned seven times in the Qur'an and a sura of the Qur'an is named after him. He is considered among the descendants of the Prophet Noah (a). Hud (a) was himself from the people of 'Ad, the story of whose punishment is mentioned in the Qur'an.
