In Chapter 24 ("The Cruise of the Coracle") Jim awakens after daylight and sees that he is floating in the little boat a quarter mile west off the southwestern end of Treasure Island, upon whose rocks and cliffs waves are breaking violently.
At the same time, the Hispaniola strikes the coracle, leaving Jim on the Hispaniola with no line of retreat. Chapter XXV: I Strike the Jolly Roger Jim tumbles onto the deck. He sees the two men who had been fighting. One lies on his back; the other, Israel Hands, is propped against the bulwarks.

Summary. Jim is still pinned by the shoulder to the mizzenmast. His thoughts turn to the dirk in his shoulder and the idea of pulling it out causes him to shudder—a movement violent enough to tear away the pinch of skin pierced by the knife. Jim realizes he is bleeding, but not really hurt.
