How recommended is Kontakt 6? I’m looking to make the jump from hobbyist to something a little more serious. With it being on sale I’m very tempted as this will be my only purchase of the sort for the time being.
Now that Kontakt 6 is out, I'm wondering how people feel about it compared to Kontakt 5. Is it pretty much the same, or have there been any significant changes? Does it affect performance differently? Are there any new modules that you find worthwhile?
Since Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt Player (smaller version of Kontakt) are both free, i would suggest you just download them both and you‘ll notice the differences.

It can be a stand-alone platform, so that you can open the program and play samples live through a computer, or it can be integrated into a DAW for recording purposes (you need to create a new soft-synth track and add Kontakt to the effects bin).

According to what I've read on forums, Kontakt 4.1 offers the most comprehensive conversions, but K5 still does a reasonable job at capturing the most crucial aspects — zones, velocity ranges and key mapping.
