Mola, which originally meant bird plumage, is the Kuna Indian word for clothing, specifically blouse, and the word mola has come to mean the elaborate embroidered panels that make up the front and back of a Kuna woman’s traditional blouse.
THE GUNA/KUNA MOLAS FROM THE SAN BLAS ISLANDS. The mola, in Spanish la mola (plural las molas) is a hand-made, multi-layered cotton panel whose complex designs are achieved via different techniques, such as appliqué, reverse appliqué, and embroidery.
The exhibition featured more than 70 items made between the 1920s and the 1990s, including mola blouses and panels, two full ensembles, small tourist items, a large quilt consisting of 73 mola panels, and photographs of Kuna villages and villagers.

30 Ιουν 2021 · This collection includes images of Molas which are an art form created by women of the indigenous Guna/ (Cuna/Kuna) Indians of the San Blas Islands off the coast of Panama. Traditional Molas were created as two appliquéd panels of fabric sewn together and worn as a woman's or girl's blouse.
