7 Σεπ 2022 · In 1972, the US Navy installed a nuclear submarine base in La Maddalena, a group of islands located at the northeastern coast of Sardinia, Italy. The creation of the base had an enormous impact on the small local population, boosting the military-industrial economy of the island that already hosted an Italian navy base.
This group is dedicated to all those who were fortunate enough to have lived or served with the US Navy on the culturally and historically rich island of La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy- a true Mediterranean paradise. We also welcome our Amici Sardi, our local hosts there.

It has long been a base for the Italian and US Navy, although the base was permanently abandoned at the beginning of 2008. US submarines stopped over in Santo Stefano, the fourth largest island in the archipelago. Today, La Maddalena houses a school for lieutenants and is home to a maritime compartment.
