Lake Lachrymose is an enormous lake that is the setting of The Wide Window. Its name can also refer to the small little coastal village located next to this dangerous body of water. The titular lake and surrounding area was discovered by and named after explorer Ivan Lachrymose.

Leeches are segmented worms with flattened bodies. They are usually black or brown, although some species are brightly colored. Many leeches have attractive speckled or striped patterns. They are amazingly flexible, able to expand and contract to the point where it’s difficult to measure them.
