Lake victoria location on map. This is Africa’s largest lake and the world’s largest tropical lake. It’s also the second-largest freshwater lake by surface area, second only to Lake Superior in the USA. Lake Victoria has many names in the local languages spoken by the people in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, the three countries that share the lake.
Lake Superior empties into Lake Huron via the St. Marys River and the Soo Locks (Sault Ste. Marie locks). Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by area and the third largest in volume, behind Lake Baikal in Siberia and Lake Tanganyika in East Africa.

It is 350 miles (563 km) long (east to west), and its greatest width is 160 miles (258 km) from north to south. It has a maximum depth of 1,332 feet (406 meters).
