  3. Detail Map: Lituya Bay, Alaska. Lituya Bay is an ice-scoured tidal inlet on the northeast shore of the Gulf of Alaska. It is about seven miles long (11.3 kilometers) and up to two miles wide (3.2 kilometers).

  4. It caused significant geologic changes in the region, including areas that experienced uplift and subsidence. It also caused a rockfall in Lituya Bay that generated a wave with a maximum height of 1,720 feet – the world’s largest recorded tsunami.
