4 Ιουλ 2023 · These injuries may be penetrating or blunt and can occur in the supraglottic, glottic, or infraglottic regions. Accurate and prompt recognition of laryngeal injury is essential, and different patterns and severity of injury are seen in blunt versus penetrating laryngeal trauma.
Symptoms of a damaged larynx include difficulty speaking, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, voice changes, noisy breathing (stridor), neck pain and/or swelling, bruising on the neck, pain when swallowing or coughing, coughing blood, and breathing problems (can be a medical emergency).
There have been reports of hoarseness, dysphagia, odynophagia, anterior neck discomfort, dyspnea, stridor, coughing, and hemoptysis as laryngeal fracture symptoms. Clinical signs include cracking on palpation, ecchymosis, hematoma, neck wound, pain, and surgical emphysema [2,7,17,19,27-33].

A larynx injury is also reported after an endotracheal intubation with possible sequelae of posterior glottic scarring and arytenoid cartilage dislocation. Cough and dysphonia are the most common clinical symptoms of laryngeal inhalation injuries after burns.
